You can’t keep your camera pristine and clean forever. Dust, dirt and smudges will speckle your camera from time to time. Here’s how you can clean your camera up and get back in the game.Cover image via ShutterstockWe’ve all been there (case in point). You’re out on a shoot and someone jumps in a rain puddle and it splashes your camera. You ask your friend to pass you a lens and they grab it by the glass leaving a huge smudge. Regardless of the circumstances, there will come a time where you will need to clean your lens to remove smudges or debris. Luckily, as long as nothing is scratched or shattered, there are plenty of tools and resources available to help you out. Here’s a few recommended methods. How to Clean LensesImage via ShutterstockLenses are very different instruments from your camera sensor. Lenses are exposed to the elements when shooting and are highly susceptible to getting dirtied up. The manufacturers also made them with this in mind, so working to clean lenses is a much different process than your sensor, which is meant to be protected at all times. The majority of lens dirtiness can be alleviated with some simple items that can (and should) be easily stored in your camera bag.Use Filters (UV or ND)Image via ShutterstockYour first preferred method for maintaining clean glass: protect your lenses with filters. Albeit, you’ll need to clean your filters just as often, but it will protect the actual lens from ever getting dirtied up. Depending on your shoot, you can use either an ND Filter (or GND if you’re fancy), or you can use a UV Filter for protection and slightly improved clarity.Lens Fluid and ClothImage via ShutterstockThe next preferred method (and first actual) would be to use a lens cloth combined with your camera-recommended lens cleaner. You can also use disposable lens tissues in lieu of the cloth, as long as its properties are comparable to microfiber. Residual oil remover fluids are available online or at your local camera store and can be purchased pretty cheaply.Lens WipesYou can also buy lens wipes (like these Zeiss Pre-Moistened Lens Cleaning Wipes) as they will be the most pristine in their individual packaging. They will also be the most expensive — so with budgeting in mind, it may or may not be a better choice than lens fluid and cloth. How to Clean SensorsImage via ShutterstockSensor cleaning is another story altogether. Damaging (or dirtying beyond simple repair) your sensor can be quite an investment depending on your camera. That being said, your camera manufacturers know this and the majority of cameras have built-in sensor cleaning mechanisms. The Canon 5D, for example, will auto-clean its sensor whenever you turn it off. Cameras auto-clean either by shaking/vibrating very slightly and quickly and/or negatively charging the air around the sensor to clean the dust off. If you do need to dive in, it’s best to try dry methods first before putting any foreign substances or pressures on the sensor.BlowersImage via ShutterstockBlowers are the recommended way of cleaning a sensor at first. Using a blower, not blowing with your mouth, is preferred, as you’ll want the air to be clear of liquid or anything else you may have in your breath. Would not recommend using compressed air either, as those can have propellents and lubricants that could mess up your sensor.BrushesImage via ShutterstockThe next step in the line of sensor cleaning succession would be to try using a brush to (ever so) lightly remove any dust or dirt off of the sensor. Make sure you use a clean sensor-designed brush that doesn’t have any hard hair that might scratch or do any damage to the sensor.Sensor Cleaning SwabsYou can also use sensor cleaning swabs. Like the lens wipes, the swabs usually come individually packed which will add up in cost in the long run — but for the higher price point, you do get the best results. The swabs take only one or two drops of solution and each side is used in one smooth, soft stroke across the sensor. You can watch this video for a better demonstration.Check Your Sensor and Lenses With a Reference PhotoThe ultimate way to see if your sensor and lenses are clear after cleaning is to take a reference photo. Set your camera to a low aperture like f/22 and take a photo against a pure white background. You can move your camera slightly to create a blur so that specks stand out. You can check it through your viewfinder or upload it and blow it up on a computer screen to check for any dirt or dust.Once you’ve checked your work through a clean reference photo, your job is done. The majority of these cleaning tools can fit quite easily and lightly in your bag. Just imagine — you may never have to do a shirt wipe again.Have any other tips or tricks for cleaning your lenses and sensors? Let us know in the comments below!
India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was on Saturday non-committal on dashing batsman Yuvraj Singh playing Sunday’s first ODI against Australia or not here but gave indications that youngster Saurabh Tiwary could make his international debut.Asked if Yuvraj, who returned to the ODI squad after being dropped from the Test series, would play, Dhoni replied cryptically, “You will have to wait and watch”.Dhoni said, “Every series is important irrespective of whether you are in the side or an experienced player or youngster coming back to the game. The more the competition, it is good for the side. Be it Yuvraj or Suresh Raina or me or the youngsters it’s the same,” he said.Dhoni was forthcoming though when asked if Murali Vijay will be fielded as one of the openers. “Yes, Murali Vijay will be there,” he said.He said Tiwary was suited for batting at number six or seven as he always wanted to go for big hits as was seen in the IPL and Champions League Twenty20 where he got exposure against some best bowlers in the world.”We want to blood him because he has been part of the team for a few series earlier. He has got exposure against the best bowlers in the IPL and CL T20. I think it is an ideal opportunity for us to give him a place in the final XI and let him play the kind of cricket he plays. He is ideally suited for number six or seven slot wherein he can look to go after the bowlers,” said Dhoni about Tiwary who also hails from Jharkhand.Dhoni said Tiwary has the right attitude to go a long way in international cricket.”He wants to go out in the middle and play the kind of cricket he knows. He backs himself and he is hard working and spends his time at net sessions. He is good character to have. With proper guidance and with little more exposure to international cricket, he can be really successful.”It is good to have some one from Jharkhand. It is slightly tougher for a player to come from a small state and represent your country. It is not a restriction any more because most of cricket played in India is covered by media in a beautiful manner and selectors will notice. It is good to have him in the side. He is an aggressive character and quite young,” he added.Australia have won all the ODI series in India since 1998 and understandably Dhoni was quite cautious talking about the result of the three-match series.”I think I lost most of the tosses in the last couple of times when they visited India. Some of the wickets were not hard enough for us to post a winning total. That is also one of the reasons. In their last trip to India, there were quite a few close games that went till the end and in Australia’s favour.advertisementSick of seeing Sachin score so heavily: ClarkeThe stand-in Australian captain Micahel Clarke is relieved that batting stalwart Sachin Tendulkar and the dashing Virender Sehwag will not be a part of the much vaunted Indian batting line-up in the One-day series, starting Sunday. The Indian Cricket Board has rested Tendulkar while dangerous Virender Sehwag and prolific scorer Gautam Gambhir are not playing due to injury.Tendulkar scored more than 400 runs in the Test series and was adjudged Man-of-the-series and Clarke is happy that his bowlers will not have contend with his class.”I am happy that all those guys (Tendulkar, Sehwag) are not playing. I am sick of seeing Sachin scoring so many runs. But I still think Indian team is very strong. They have a lot of young players who have played T20s and ODIs before and they have a lot of talent,” Clarke said on the eve of the series-opener.Australians are also without some big stars and Clarke said, it will be an even contest.”I think the opposition we are playing is very tough, especially in the Indian conditions but I am confident that if we play to our best, we will win the series. As I said earlier this series is going to be fought evenly,” he said. The Aussie captain was not sure if pacer Dough Bollinger will be able to make it to the final XI.”Doug is recovering but I am not sure if he is going to be fit to play tomorrow, we will have to wait and see. He hasn’t had a bowl since straining his abdomen, I think we will have to wait and see how he pulls up after a bowl today.”advertisementPersistent rains have not only denied the two sides some valuable practice but are also threatening to play a spoilsport.Clarke said his team mates are itching to go out.”I think all the boys are sick to be going to the gym. We haven’t done much really to be honest. We are really keen to get outside and play the first ODI.”I think we will step out and do some running around, catch a few balls, get out of the hotel rooms. It’s been good for the body to have no cricket in the last two three days but we are very keen to play tomorrow,” he said.On being asked if Australia will field two spinners considering the help Indian pitches offer them, Clarke was not sure.”In all three forms of the game, Nathan Hauritz form has been very good in the last 12 months. He would have liked to perform better in the Test matches no doubt but Hauritz has been a good one-day bowler for a long time. Young Steven Smith is a good all rounder.”I haven’t been to the ground, so I have to look at the conditions and may be who knows both of them might be playing. We will wait and see tomorrow,” he said. With inputs from PTI

Children in Nova Scotia who are waiting for a loving and permanent home may be one step closer to a family of their own. A toll-free telephone line has now been established to connect families wishing to learn more about adoption with adoption information and resources. “Every child deserves to have a family — people to love them, care for them and stay connected to them permanently,” David Morse, Minister of Community Services, said today, May 13. “The launch of this toll-free information line is one more way to encourage Nova Scotians to consider adoption.” The Department of Community Services launched the toll-free line, 1-866-259-7780, to encourage more Nova Scotians to consider adopting a young person waiting for a permanent and loving family of their own. The province is working to increase the number of children placed for adoption. Many of these youngsters are older children, siblings or children with special needs. Callers to the toll-free line will receive an information package on adoption and may be referred to adoption resources and pre-assessment services in the community where appropriate.
Government is launching a procurement pilot to encourage businesses to hire apprentices in Nova Scotia. Labour and Advanced Education Minister Kelly Regan joined members of construction and skilled trades industries to announce the program today, Jan. 6. The pilot was developed in partnership with the Construction Association of Nova Scotia. It requires contractors bidding on provincially funded construction projects in Nova Scotia to take part in the province’s apprenticeship program. “This is about leading by example,” said Ms. Regan. “We’re committed to developing a strong, skilled workforce. Some private sector employers are hiring apprentices. We need to salute them and we need more to follow their lead. Employers are the key to providing apprentices with the training and skills they need to succeed here in the province.” The pilot will focus on current school construction projects only and applies to contractors whose portion of the bid equals or exceeds $100,000. Exceptions will be made for smaller companies and those whose work doesn’t fall within a designated trade. “This program recognizes employers that are actively hiring apprentices, and will hopefully inspire other employers to do the same,” said Rene Cox, vice president at Bird Construction. “Hiring and training apprentices is not only good for the province, it’s good for business.” Contractors must show proof of participation in the apprentice system to perform work on these projects. They can apply for such proof by visiting the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency website at www.nsapprenticeship.ca.
As fans count down to the premiere of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Disney, Target and Star Wars: Force for Change are launching a new fashion-meets-fundraising initiative inspired by the themes of rebellion from the new movie.Ten influential names across film, music, fashion and sports have come together to support UNICEF Kid Power by creating a line of “Force 4 Fashion” T-shirts available exclusively in the U.S. at Target beginning November 27.Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will introduce fans to a group of rebels who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves. Each of the T-shirt designs celebrates this theme using a powerful slogan to represent the importance of standing up for what you believe in.Five dollars from the sale of each shirt will be donated to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF in support of UNICEF Kid Power. Through this unique initiative, kids can complete physical activities and interactive challenges to earn points—which ultimately are used to provide life-saving packets of food for severely malnourished children around the world. The more kids move, the more points they earn, the more kids they help.“This campaign is about raising funds and awareness for UNICEF Kid Power’s mission to improve the lives of children everywhere,” said Paul Southern, senior vice president of licensing for Lucasfilm at Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media. “Everyone connected to this initiative has been a Force for Change in different ways, and we hope their stories will inspire others to get involved.”The Force 4 Fashion line was designed with support from Riz Ahmed, June Ambrose, Steve Aoki, Camilla Belle, Gareth Edwards, Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Olivia Munn, Kelly Slater, and Brittany Snow, who’ve all been active in supporting different causes through their careers. In addition to purchasing the special T-shirts, fans can join the rebellion by sharing their own inspiring stories and posting on social channels how they are a #ForceForChange on “Giving Tuesday,” November 29.“I love Star Wars and I’m passionate about giving back,” said Steve Aoki. “The opportunity to partner with Lucasfilm and Target to design a shirt that benefits UNICEF is something I’ve enjoyed being a part of and I hope my fans love it as much as I do.”“Investing in our children means a brighter future for all, and this holiday season, the U.S. Fund for UNICEF is thrilled Star Wars: Force for Change and this “Force 4 Fashion” initiative are supporting UNICEF Kid Power,” said Caryl M. Stern, President & CEO of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. “UNICEF Kid Power helps us to stand and give every child hope. With every step, kids get active and save lives, moving the world closer towards ending global malnutrition.”Since the UNICEF Kid Power program launch in 2014, more than 190,000 UNICEF Kid Power Team Members have become active, earning more than 12.5 million Kid Power Points and unlocking more than 5.1 million packets of lifesaving therapeutic food for severely malnourished children. INGERSOLL, Ont. — General Motors and the union representing about 2,500 striking workers at the CAMI assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ont., are expected to resume talks today aimed at ending a strike that’s into its fourth week. The members of Unifor Local 88 walked off the job a little more than three weeks ago on Sept. 17 as union negotiators worked to have GM designate the CAMI plant as the lead producer of the Equinox SUV.The union said last Thursday that the two sides had “worked through a lot of the contract language” but remained far apart on job security and economic issues.Local 88 president Dan Borthwick says the union’s master bargaining committee took a break over the Thanksgiving weekend and met this morning. He says the union’s position will remain the same as it was last Thursday when it meets with the company’s bargaining team.Job security at the CAMI plant has been a major issue, with Unifor seeking to prevent work done by its members from being moved to Mexico, where GM also produces the Equinox SUV.Ontario Economic Development Minister Brad Duguid said Friday that he had spoken with both sides and that neither had asked for government support to keep the Equinox lines in the province.Duguid said the dispute was “rippling through” Ontario’s supply chain economy and urged both parties to reach an agreement.Dias dismissed GM’s latest contract offer last week as “fluff,” saying it still allowed the company to shift resources away from the Ingersoll plant.
Peel police are warning residents in the Chinese community about a scam that promises to help bring members of their family to Canada for work. The scam involves fake ads that are being placed in local Chinese newspapers offering visitor visas, work permits and immigration documents to foreign residents. The victims are asked to provide cash for a deposit to secure these documents. The scammers then provide fake identification and business documents to have the victims believe it is a legitimate operation. After the money is exchanged, the promised travel documents are not provided and this often leaves the family or friend in China waiting for a ride to the airport which never comes.Peel police say they are actively investigating these incidents and ask anyone with information about this scam to contact the Fraud Bureau at 905-453-2121, ext. 3335.Police have offered the following tips to help residents avoid being the victim of a scam:If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is, become suspect. The following company name ‘Gao Sheng Investment Corporation’ is a fictitious company that does not exist and has been used by culprits in the past. The culprit will only accept cash and will not accept cheque, or debit/credit card for payment. The representative will not allow the victim to meet at a business office and will ask to either meet in person at the victim’s residence or another public place such as a coffee shop or restaurant. The requirement of cash up front prior to any documentation or service being provided.Check the information that the representative has given you, such as does the business address actually exist, and does the provided phone number come back to a business and not a personal cellphone.Requests for money should be treated with caution and an appropriate amount of due diligence should be practiced.Education is the key to prevention with this type of scam. by Linda Nguyen, The Canadian Press Posted Jul 17, 2014 5:14 am MDT Galen Weston takes over daily operations at Loblaw; Shoppers head to exit AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to TwitterTwitterShare to FacebookFacebookShare to RedditRedditShare to 電子郵件Email Galen Weston is taking over the role of president at Loblaw Companies Ltd., Canada’s largest grocer, amid the abrupt departure of two senior executives.Weston, who is also executive chairman of the company, will add the day-to-day operations at the retailer to his responsibilities. The move came as the company announced president Vicente Trius was leaving to return to Brazil due to personal reasons, including recent losses in his immediate family.Domenic Pilla, president of the recently acquired Shoppers Drug Mart chain, will also be quitting Loblaw to pursue other opportunities. He will stay with the grocer until the end of the year and be replaced by Mike Motz, Loblaw’s executive vice-president and chief merchandising officer. In a conference call Thursday, Weston, whose family also owns Loblaw’s parent company, George Weston Ltd. (TSX:WN), said there is never a good time for a major change in management.“Having said that, if you had to pick a time, this is a good time given the strength of the business, the consistency the business has performed and the shift in the strategy and priorities that need to be executed going forward,” Weston said.He reassured analysts that the incorporation of Shoppers has been going according to plan.“We feel optimistic about our ability to deliver… there should not be any concern,” he said.As president, Weston will be at the forefront of the business, which has evolved from being a grocer, to include drug stores, real estate holdings and financial services.“The new structure puts Galen Weston squarely in the driver’s seat, aligning shareholders and management responsibility,” analyst Irene Nattel wrote in a note to investors.“Although Mr. Weston has been part of the C-suite since 2006, his role has been more strategic; it is now becoming more operational and focused on execution. Mr. Weston also confirmed his/Loblaw’s intention to continue to build stronger lines of communication with investors.”Nattel said the changes “should in no way be interpreted as a sign that anything is amiss.”Other changes in the corporate structure Thursday included Richard Dufresne assuming the role as chief financial officer at Loblaw. He will also remain as chief financial officer at George Weston. The company’s former head of finance, Sarah Davis, will become chief administrative officer and will be tasked with finding efficiencies across the new organization. Grant Froese will become Loblaw’s new chief operating officer.Loblaw (TSX:L) is navigating its way through a competitive time in the grocery industry with several U.S. retailers trying to snag a share of the Canadian marketplace. While the company is expected to report its financial results on July 24, Loblaw said preliminary figures point to strong same-store sales in its supermarkets and pharmacies, a key performance indicator for the retail industry.Loblaw completed its purchase of the Shoppers Drug Mart chain of stores earlier this year and is working to incorporate the two businesses more fully, including offering Loblaw’s President’s Choice products, produce and prepared meals in some Shoppers locations.Besides, its main grocery store business, Loblaw also operates the clothing line Joe Fresh, real estate trust Choice Properties, drugstore chain Shoppers Drug Mart and financial services division President’s Choice Financial. It also owns 22 different banners.Follow @LindaNguyenTO on Twitter.
“Rabies is preventable at its source by vaccinating dogs” Dr. Bernadette Abela-Ridder, Team Leader of Neglected Zoonotic Diseases at WHO headquarters in Geneva, said in a news release issued on the occasion of World Rabies Day. “Decline in human rabies deaths closely mirrors that of rabies in dogs, and investments are needed now to roll out elimination programmes in affected communities and countries.”“Rabies, which mainly affects the rural poor and marginalised populations, continues to kill tens of thousands of people every year. Almost 40 per cent of victims exposed to dog-bites are children under the age of 15. “The disease is mainly transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected dog, something that is widespread in low-income countries that have little or no domestic and stray-dog management or vaccination programmes, according to WHO. “The agency went on to say that pilot programmes have successfully demonstrated that elimination of rabies is achievable mainly through mass dog-vaccination campaigns, supported by improved access to post-bite treatment immediately after a dog bite. “Recent WHO-led pilot projects in the Philippines, South Africa and Tanzania have demonstrated that mass vaccination of dogs can drastically reduce and eventually eliminate human rabies deaths. “Another successful rabies elimination programme was implemented in Bangladesh where a mass dog vaccination campaign between 2011 and 2013 resulted in reducing human rabies deaths by 50 per cent, WHO said. “ “Building on the success of its national elimination programme, Bangladesh plans to reduce human rabies deaths by 90 per cent by the end of this year and achieve elimination by 2020,” it said. “WHO, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) are initiating an international conference on the global elimination of dog-mediated human rabies from 10 to 11 December 2015 in Geneva. “Over 99 per cent of human cases are due to dog bites and, unlike many other diseases, the tools required to tackle this neglected disease are available,” it said.
A woman pushes her buggy onto a London busCredit:Ian Jones Doug Paulley outside the Supreme CourtCredit:PA Mr Paulley’s marathon legal battle was triggered on the morning of February 24 2012 when he attempted to board the 9.40 bus from Wetherby to Leeds operated by FirstGroup which had a sign saying: “Please give up this space if needed for a wheelchair user.”He was on his way to catch a train to meet his parents for lunch in Stalybridge. But he was left at the stop because a woman with a sleeping baby in a pushchair refused to move out of the designated area when asked by the bus driver. She said the buggy would not fold. Those steps could in appropriate cases, include “a refusal to drive on”.Mr Paulley, from Wetherby, West Yorkshire, was cheered by other wheelchair users and disabled people outside the court in London after the ruling. He said: “I am absolutely delighted. It has been a long fight. We have achieved something really substantial here which will make a difference to people who need the wheelchair space – not just wheelchair users but other disabled people.”This is important – a significant cultural change.” Disabled campaigner Doug Paulley has claimed “an important victory” in his legal battle for wheelchair users to have priority use for wheelchair spaces on buses. The Supreme Court unanimously ruled it was not enough for drivers to “simply request” a non-wheelchair user to vacate the space without taking any further steps. The highest court in the land ruled, if a refusal to move is unreasonable, the driver must consider taking further steps to “pressurise” the reluctant passenger to leave the space, “depending on the circumstances”. FirstGroup had a policy of “requesting but not requiring” non-disabled travellers, including those with babies and pushchairs, to vacate the space if it is needed by a wheelchair user.On Wednesday seven Supreme Court justices ruled FirstGroup’s policy should have gone further.Court president Lord Neuberger said: “It was not enough for FirstGroup to instruct its drivers simply to request non-wheelchair users to vacate the space and do nothing if the request was refused.”The approach of the driver must depend upon the circumstances, but where the refusal is unreasonable, some further step to pressurise the non-wheelchair user to move should be considered.”Lord Neuberger added: “And a refusal to drive on should be considered in appropriate cases.” Want the best of The Telegraph direct to your email and WhatsApp? Apple has this morning sent out a press release confirming what it will be talking about at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2011 on June 6. The line-up makes for some interesting reading. We will get to see and hear about a number of updates we already know exist. The first is Mac OS X Lion and what the eighth release of Apple’s Mac operating system will bring. There will also be news of iOS 5, meaning new stuff for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users to get to grips with, as well as competitors looking to see what new stuff they have to compete against. The last thing Apple mentioned on the list of topics is also going to be the biggest for both consumers and chatter across the news networks. Apple has confirmed it will be talking about iCloud, which it describes as the company’s “upcoming cloud services offering.”It’s nice to finally have an official name for what is expected to be Apple’s move into cloud storage for content. It also makes sense to tie the announcement in with a new Mac OS X update and iOS 5 as both will need features to support the service. While it’s very unusual for Apple to tell us about a new service before a conference happens, it may just be a way of calming us all down and confirming this year’s WWDC is all about the software. There is no iPhone 5 as far as we can tell, but Steve Jobs will be on hand to tell us how amazing everything is regardless of a lack of shiny new hardware.Read more at Apple
Founded by Betty Burstall in 1967, La Mama theatre was established as a crucible for independent cutting-edge, contemporary theatre in Australia. After experiencing the intimate and supportive performance culture of the La MaMa coffee house in New York, Burstall returned to Australia and found the little brick building in Faraday Street, Carlton. She started renting the building at $28 a week and set up shop.Since 1976, La Mama has flourished under the courageous leadership of Artistic Director, Liz Jones, and continues to support large numbers of diverse theatre makers and companies on the basis of its unique high-artistic-risk / low-financial-risk model. In 2008 the La Mama community bought the Farady Street building, securing the future of the much-loved artistic hub.Fast forward to 2016, La Mama welcomed 1700 independent artists, over 30,000 audience members and presented 175 different productions and events: that’s a total of an extraordinary 905 performance events across the year.“La Mama is thriving. Treasured for its advocacy of those seeking to explore beyond the mainstream it continues to produce and present work by theatremakers of all backgrounds. We foster the exploration and deconstruction of form, content, and social issues. The team at La Mama are extremely excited to be turning 50 and looking forward to celebrating with a book, Mini-Fest, birthday party, and book launch. Do join us!” says La Mama’s Artistic Director, Liz Jones.“The Mini-Fest is as much a snapshot of our history as a celebration of our future. It forms an essential part of our year-long celebration.” To celebrate the landmark’s 50 years, the artistic director has invited an eclectic mob of La Mama artists to present short seasons of work, including acclaimed playwright Tess Lyssiotis whose work has been read at La Mama Theatre from 1982 to this day.Lyssiotis was born in Australia of Greek parents. She trained as a drama/media teacher at Rusden State College, and taught drama in secondary schools for eight years including a post as drama consultant for the Knox region, before becoming a full-time writer and director, serving on the boards of La Mama Theatre and the Drama Panel of the Victorian Ministry for the Arts. Her first professionally toured work was I’ll Go to Australia and Wear a Hat in 1982. Much of Lyssiotis’s early writing is bilingual or multilingual. In 1984 she founded Filiki Players with actors Nikos Zarkadas and Lu Beranek. Drawing on her Greek immigrant heritage, Lyssiotis’ plays have brought a vital new voice to Australian theatre.Other artists presenting works in the La Mama 50th Mini-Fest (10 July – 11 August) are: Maude Davey, Anni Davey, James Clayden, Susie Dee, Patricia Cornelius, Barry Dickins, Mary Helen Sassman, Daniel Schlusser, Lloyd Jones, and Laurence Strangio. For details visit lamama.com.au/50 or phone 03 9347 6142The queue outside La Mama back in the day.Early La Mama days in Carlton.
